WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Coalition to Empower our Future (CEF), a growing partnership focused on understanding the complexity of factors and solutions surrounding youth mental health and wellbeing, today launched a new ad, “Kyra,” highlighting the important role media and digital literacy education play as a cornerstone of comprehensive solutions to support youth mental health and wellbeing.
The spot features Kyra Brissette, chief executive officer (CEO) of Media Literacy Now, a nonprofit organization that informs and drives policy change at local, state, and national levels in the U.S. to ensure all K-12 students are taught media literacy so that they become healthy, confident and competent media consumers and creators. As young people navigate an increasingly complex digital landscape, the ad acknowledges that understanding how to live in today’s digital world is a necessary skill to develop as a young person. Programs such as Media Literacy Now help equip young people and their parents with critical media literacy tools and education that encourage balanced, positive technology habits to support their overall wellbeing. Media Literacy Now is a member of the Coalition to Empower our Future.
“Young people today are living in an increasingly digital world, and that comes with real challenges. Fortunately, media literacy is a proven strategy to help young people navigate the digital world safely and confidently, and we’re proud to partner with organizations like Media Literacy Now working to ensure that these vital skills are a foundational component of every child’s education,” said Glen Weiner, executive director of CEF. “Our research shows widespread support for measured, thoughtful solutions, such as integrating digital literacy education into curriculum, in stark opposition to growing concerns about narrow, one-off solutions such as bans.”
