Keeping up with my kids’ technology use can sometimes feel like a full-time job. We have conversations about when they can use their devices, how much time they should spend online and the importance of making good choices. I want to be involved enough to help guide them without being overbearing. Like other parents I talk to, I know we cannot do this alone.
That is why the recent landmark agreement between Pennsylvania and Meta is such a big deal. It gives parents more tools to help our kids use technology safely and responsibly. It also provides a number of meaningful safeguards for kids themselves.
In the agreement, Attorney General Dave Sunday secured more than $500 million for Pennsylvania alone, in addition to platform changes such as expanded parental controls, daily screentime limits, nighttime restrictions, muted notifications during school hours and stronger age-assurance measures. Parents will also have more options to manage content and features. These are exactly the kinds of tools parents have been asking for.
